The "China Optical Valley" Optoelectronics Expo, which was just closed in wuhan, attracted 58 overseas enterprises and more than 3,000 representatives from more than 10 countries and regions including the United States, Russia, Canada etc. Mr. Hequan Wu, an academician of the Chinese academy of engineering, said the era of global "big data" has come by a series of data during the expo.

Within a minute, more than 100,000 new messages were posted on Weibo and Twitter, and more than 6 million message were viewed on Facebook. In two minutes, the photos uploaded in global is more than the total photos in the 19th century. Mr. Hequan Wu, an academician of the Chinese academy of engineering, said at the Broadband China & Optical Fiber Communication conference on November 2 that China needed to strengthen its optical network technology innovation to meet the arrival of "big data" era.

It has become an urgent task for the development of the optoelectronic field to comprehensively strengthen the optical network technology innovation and meet the future opportunities and challenges. With social networks mature and mobile bandwidth increases rapidly, more sensing devices and mobile terminals are connected to the network, the data generated and its increase speed is more and faster than any time in history, and data traffic on the Internet is growing rapidly, says Mr. Wu.  

Driven by cloud computing, Internet of things and other technologies, China's mobile Internet has entered the era of "big data". Chinese mobile internet traffic has increased ten times in the past 18 months and now accounts for 10 percent of global internet traffic, according to wu.
